1. $2,3 billion was illegally traded away by a Swiss investment bank’s trader Kweku Adoboli. He used bank’s money for unauthorized trades and hided his losses. After all, his girlfriend advised him to confess, which he did and went to jail for 3 years in 2012.
2. $2,6 bln was lost by a Japanese company Sumitomo because of the copper crisis caused by a trader Yasuo Hamanaka aka Mr. Copper. He’s also known as Mr. Five Percent because he controlled 5% of the global copper market. He spend 8 years in prison.
3. $7,2 billion was lost by Jerome Kerviel, a junior derivatives trader from Societe Generale, one of Europe’s largest banks. He served 5 months in jail but his case is still in progress.
